Cirencester Singers are a friendly and informal community choir based in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
We have been singing together since 2014 when we were formed by Suzanne Bishop and Amy Garry who wanted to create a relaxed, non-audition singing group for people to come along and sing…no experience required, just a love of singing!
Since 2014 we have put on our own regular ‘showcases’ for friends and family, as well as performing at Powell’s School, Graze Cirencester and The Fleece Cirencester. Please see the ‘upcoming concerts’ tab so see what we’re up to next!
Suzanne Bishop (Founder)
Suzanne founded Cirencester Singers in 2014 after feeling there was a gap in the market for an informal choir that didn’t audition or rely upon sight-reading skills to take part. She lives in Kemble with her husband and two children and travels around the country for work…but always makes it back for Monday night rehearsals!
Amy Garry (Musical Director & Co-founder)
Amy is currently training to teach Secondary Music and studied Music at the University of Leeds (2013). She teaches piano and singing and has a young daughter who loves to come and watch the choir’s performances!
Russell Blackaller (Accompanist)
Russell is a well-known face in the area, having taught Drama for many years in Cirencester. He now teaches piano and plays in ‘The Curious Little Big Band’ who you can find out more about here: http://www.thecuriouslittlebigband.com/wedding-band-party-music/
And of course…our members!
Our membership is made up of around 40 members of a wide range of ages. We have a range of abilities and experience in the choir, with some members having sung at a professional level and others just starting to explore singing for the first time! The enthusiasm, commitment and friendship shown by our members is what keeps us all coming back and means we have become a strong community over the past 2 years. We have also been known to organise fairly noisy socials, including going to watch ‘Hairspray’ at the cinema in Barnsley House earlier this year!
